The Connecticut Medical Training Academy

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN-BASIC

Course Description:

This one hundred and Thirty plus hour course is based upon and adheres to the National Department of Transportation and the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health's, guidelines for an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic.

Topics Included in the EMT Basic program:
Introduction to emergency care, well-being of the EMT-B, medical legal and ethical issues, the human body, baseline vital signs, sample history, professional rescuer CPR, airway management, and scene size-up. The student will also learn initial assessment, focused history for the medical and trauma patients, detailed physical exam, focused physical exam. The EMT-Basic will also have and understanding about Pharmacology, respiratory, cardiovascular, and diabetic emergencies. In addition the EMT-Basic will be taught the latest in Automated External Defibrillation (AED) usage.

This exciting, yet demanding course will be taught through didactic lecture and hands on demonstration and practical application settings. The EMT-B candidate must maintain a grade point average of seventy-five percent or better in order to take the Connecticut Medical Training Academy’s final written exam. Candidates who successfully complete the written exam must then successfully complete the Connecticut Medical Training Academy’s practical skills station evaluation. Candidates that successfully complete both testing phases will be scheduled for the Connecticut State final written and National Registry EMT Basic practical exams.

EMT Basic Program Fee: $550.00 This cost includes ALL textbooks, CPR course and book, Bloodpressure Cuff and Stethoscope. A $100.00 non-refundable deposit is required to register for this program.

Additional fees:  State of CT practical exam and National Registry written exam.

We offer the EMT Basic course in two formats:
Part-time course offered spring and fall: Monday and Wednesday nights: 6p - 10p
Full-time course offered in the summer: Monday, Wednesday and Friday days: 9a - 4p
