TRIAGE AND MASS CASUALTY
- SCENE MANAGEMENT
NEW ENGLAND STANDARD CURRICULUM

Many communities have identified the need for mutual aid assistance from
surrounding area ambulance and fire services. This back-up assistance is usually

This program, developed and agreed upon by the New England Council for EMS, will
introduce participants in the handling of a Mass Casualty Incident.
Topics include:
This program will review the day-to-day EMS system and then compare it to a Mass
Casualty Incident. Problem identification of mass casualty situations will be
discussed and possible solutions introduced. Triage, the sorting of patients,
will be gone over in-depth. Scene Management, of the EMS response, will put into
light the structure and organization of running a Mass Casualty event. This
program stresses the importance of a cooperative effort between all involved
parties.
This course can be offered, without certification, as part of any in- service or
continuing education program. Certification is given to those participants who
